Meditation for Christians is far different then the mind-
As a verb, the basic meaning of is to rehearse, go over in ones mind, repent.
As a noun it means a complaint (1Sam 1:16; Job 7:13); communication (2Kings 9:11); talking"(1Kings 18:27); prayer (Psa 64:1); and devotion.
In other words, this is an active and interactive practice when Christians engage in it. We are seeking after the heart of God to join ours with His.
Meditation Mountain Meditation can be done by:
silently or aloud, thinking about
and you can do it anywhere.
It focuses our hearts in on God.
It cause us to continually reflect on His person and power.
It humbles us because we meditate on the fact that He is God before us.
It is communication with the Lord who loves us. It is speaking with our Father about our lives It helps us to not sin.
Start with a small piece of Scripture about God. Don't make it too large. Now, just sit quietly for a minute and go over it in your mind. If you picked a Scripture on God being Sovereign, for example, think about this throughout the day. What does it mean that God is over everything? What does everything mean? Think of a circumstance in your life that seems daunting, think about how God is sovereign over that? Think of circumstances where you have seen Him triumph over something in your life. Continue this until you come to a place where what is left is praise.
That's all there is to it.
One last note. Meditation also has the image of "chewing your cud." Cows bring up food they have ingested from one of their stomachs to chew on it some more. They swallow it and bring it up again to chew on it one more time. Our practice is chewing on the Word and Works of God until you have gotten all the nutrients out of it.
Proverbs 6:22 When you walk about, they (the words of God) will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.
The Word of God is alive because Scripture says that He inhabits His words. As you meditate on His words they will guide you, watch over you and speak to your life.
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
God's word living in your heart will begin to transform you in a way you had always hoped for.
